In recent years, brands have started looking at their flagship stores as a multifunctional retail space, a place that encompasses an entire lifestyle. These spaces don't only offer the clothes they sell, but they offer relaxation and promote a whole lifestyle along with it. Nanushka, the Budapest-based fashion label, is known for creating bohemian-inspired pieces for the modern and minimalist; a consumer who values above all else, functionality, practicality and quality. URBA was commissioned to translate these values into the language of interior design.

Nanushka’s visual design universe is located in a majestic two-floor 350 sqm ground floor site in turn-of-the-century tenement house, in Budapest’s representative shopping district. Between the raw, stripped-down walls, the store is serving not only its current collection but also incorporates the Hungarian capital’s coffee house culture.
An important aspect in shaping the concept was the creation of a homely milieu, in which the personality of the brand is the most determining factor. URBA and Nanushka team worked closely together to select the materials and furniture used, and even blend fabrics from their past collections to appear on some mobiles.

Another key point was to capture the cosmopolitan sense of life: the atmosphere of sunny, exotic landscapes evokes the natural-colored canvas that softens the walls, the reeds, the potted banana trees. To dilute the sense of exclusivity of world travel, URBA choose almost-gold, galvanized surfaces, untreated brick and concrete walls. This comfortable negligence, coupled with the vast ochre yellow velvet armchairs, pale Persian rugs, embodies the timelessness of classical modernism. Its design is echoed in the lines of chairs, tables and stands, and the gallery itself is built into the space as a modern showcase. Giving a soft, diffuse lighting element is a way to ensure flattering light for shoppers and also make the space social media friendly.

All in all, a tranquilized living space has been created, where the customer's needs are maximized, either in terms of the functionality of the individual shelving systems or the experience-enhancing feel of the brand message. Like the clothes, every detail of the equipment, with the scent of specialty coffee, the multi glaze porcelain cups crafted by Sandor Szandra, the founder herself and produced in collaboration with Natalia Nemes of Noha studio, is for the conscious customers of today.
